MINUTES OF COUNCIL MEETING

February 12, 2013

 

Attendance:  Mayor Pro-Tem:  Kenny Hughes.

Council Members: Patricia Brown, Patty Hutcheson, Donald Rainey.

 

Department Heads: City Clerk Karen King, Public Works Director Dean Tanner, Police Chief Tracy Lambert.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes: called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes welcomed everyone.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes leads Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks for invocation.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks Public Works Director Dean Tanner to start public hearing for CDBG grant.

 

Public Works Director Dean Tanner

 

Council Member Patricia Brown was asked to please not participate in public hearing because she lives in the target area.  Asks public is there are any questions.  There were no objections.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes closes public hearing.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks to accept the agenda for tonight.  Patty Hutcheson made motion to accept the agenda for tonight.  Patricia Brown seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks to accept the minutes from Council Meeting January 8, 2013 and Work Session January 29, 2013.  Patricia Brown made a motion to accept the minutes from Council Meeting January 8, 2013 and Work Session January 29, 2013.   Donald Rainey seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

 

Public Participation:

 

Jana Gentry (Library)

 

Explains the e-book committee is moving along well and now has over 1,450 e-books to share with the public of West Georgia.  Had another opportunity to see Bremen’s mock trial group from school asked teacher if these would be future lawyers and judges and was told without hesitation that they were.  Basic computer classes will continue at the library.  Library has formed regional library group and will try to meet quarterly.  The library part-time employee will be leaving but she is looking for a replacement. 

 

Janie Holder (Better Hometown Manager)

New Business: (Jennie English and Sherry Smith)

 

Explains Leadership Haralson program, they will have a seminar on March 26th at the Technical College to find ways we can move forward. 

 

ADOPTION OF CDBG GRANT RESOLUTION:

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks to adopt CDBG grant resolution.  Patty Hutcheson made motion to adopt CDBG grant resolution.  Donald Rainey seconded the motion.  Patricia Brown abstained from vote due to living in target area.  Motion carried 3-0.

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks for the department updates:

 

Public Works Director Dean Tanner:

 

Requests vote to allow him to purchase lawnmower from Epling’s Lawn Mower Shop.  Requests vote to allow him to purchase used truck.  Updates progress of playground.

City Clerk Karen King:

 

Asks council member’s if they would be interested in attending classes at the Savannah convention June 22-25 this year.  Discusses letter she received from GMA regarding Mayor and Council filing financial documents online.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Hughes asks for a motion to adjourn.  Patricia Brown makes motion to adjourn.  Patty Hutcheson seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.
