MINUTES OF COUNCIL MEETING

 

November 13, 2014

Mayor:  Chase Croft

Council Members:  Patricia Brown, Patty Hutcheson, Donald Rainey, Greg Lane.

Department Heads: City Clerk Karen King, Public Works Director Dean Tanner, Police Chief Chad Henderson

Mayor Croft: called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Mayor Croft welcomed everyone.

Mayor Croft leads Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Croft asks invocation.

Mayor Croft recognizes veterans.

Mayor Croft asks to accept the agenda for tonight with one change and one addition.  Patricia Brown made motion to accept the agenda for tonight with change of voting on minutes at next regular meeting and addition of auditor Michelle Robinson discussing audit with mayor and council.  Patricia Brown seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Public Participation:

None.

City Park Update:

Park Committee has ordered block for the amphitheater seating and it is here also the electrical supplies to get power to the amphitheater is here and we are looking into prices for some landscaping.

Library Update (Jana Gentry):

Jana states that the library recently enjoyed a visit from a local author from Rome Georgia who won the 2008 debut author of the year award and has written four books of his own he talked about his fourth book which is his latest release Sweetwater Blues and is available at your local library also enjoyed October Wednesday’s writers court second graders from the primary school are honing their essay skills library will have international game day Saturday everyone is invited to attend story time Monday at 2:00 still increasing e-book collection we have been awarded two more grants one from the Plumb Creek Foundation and another from Community Foundation these will completely re-shelve the children’s book area as well as a couple other areas and might even have enough left for some non-fiction book’s  .

Michelle Robinson states she has finished audit and will and discusses her findings with mayor and council.

Public Works Director Dean Tanner:

Dean Tanner states he had his pre bid meeting on the CDBG project yesterday hopeful to get the water lines started soon last year we kind of got caught unaware with the bad weather we had and I would like to prepared this year we have started working on putting up Christmas lights will get to work on Park as soon as he can. 

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to come allow Public Works Director Dean Tanner to purchase a Salt Dogg salt spreader for amount of $649.00.  Patricia Brown makes motion to allow Public Director Dean Tanner to purchase a Salt Dogg salt spreader for amount of $649.00.  Greg Lane seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Police Chief Chad Henderson:

Chad Henderson states he had to take a patrol car to James O’Neil because the night shift officer said the motor was knocking bumper arrived for patrol car that was involved in an accident and I’m working on getting it installed we have a company offering us body cameras I asked him for eight of them they are offering them for free all they want is to have a copy of what is recorded I have asked that the officers leave a card to let you know they have checked your businesses at night and daytime I’m looking into a neighborhood watch program also a Juvenile Program ages 12 to 16 meet here once a week or maybe monthly just to let the kids know we are here for them also crime stoppers program where people call in to help with theft in this area. 

City Clerk Karen King:

Karen King gives Mayor Croft and Greg Lane transcripts from the class they attended Karen presents bid on cleaning up the property on Tallapoosa Street council requests three bids on the cleanup also would like to pursue the Wex Fleet Credit Cards for all cars for better tracking. 

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to get the Wex Fleet Credit Cards.  Patty Hutcheson makes motion to get the Wex Fleet Credit Cards.  Patricia Brown seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.        

Code Enforcement Nathan Forrister:

Nathan Forrister asks attorney Rob Monroe about the Dodson Street Property and Rob states he will get that filing done next week also discusses other properties and where he stands with council.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to go into executive session regarding personnel/Legal Matters/possible land purchase.  Patricia Brown makes motion to go into executive session regarding personnel/Legal Matters/possible land purchase.  Greg Lane seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to come out of executive session.  Patricia Brown makes motion to come out of executive session.  Greg Lane seconded motion.  Motion carried

4-0.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to pay the proposed settlement to Christopher Lane litigation as requested by insurance company.  Donald Rainey makes motion to pay the proposed settlement to Christopher Lane.  Patty Hutcheson seconded motion.  Motion carried 3-0.  Greg Lane abstains from vote.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to adjourn.  Patricia Brown makes motion to adjourn.  Donald Rainey seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.
