MINUTES OF COUNCIL MEETING 

FEBRUARY 9, 2015

Mayor:  Chase Croft

Council Members:  Patricia Brown, Patty Hutcheson, Donald Rainey, Greg Lane.

Department Heads: City Clerk Karen King, Public Works Director Dean Tanner, Police Chief Chad Henderson

Mayor Croft: called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Mayor Croft welcomed everyone.

Mayor Croft leads Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Croft asks for invocation.

Mayor Croft states there will be a hunter safety course here on February 17th

 and 19th    hours will be from 6 pm to 10 pm attendance is required both nights to receive certification.

Mayor Croft states he is working on a new website that will be more people friendly. 

Mayor Croft asks to accept the agenda for tonight.  Donald Rainey made motion to accept the agenda for tonight.  Patricia Brown seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Mayor Croft asks to accept the minutes from January 16, 2015 council meeting and January 27, 2015 work session.  Patty Hutcheson made a motion to accept the minutes.    Patricia Brown seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Public Participation:

Mayor Croft states we are going to restart our city park committee meetings on February 24th at 6 pm I would like to invite the DBR if they would like to participate.

Jana Gentry: (Library)

Jana thanks City of Buchanan for continued support of the library.  Jana talks about author John Bailey from Villa Rica and second grade who visited the library.  Jana explains upcoming programs at the library and importance of reading to children and teaching children to read.

Janie Holder: (Better Hometown Manager)

Janie presents mayor and council with plan of work for upcoming year.

New Business

Mayor Croft states every year we renew the Memorandum of understanding with Better Hometown to provide their services for our city.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to approve the Better Hometown Group for the next year.  Donald Rainey makes motion.  Patty Hutcheson seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

Department Updates:

Mayor Croft asks for the department updates:

Public Works Director Dean Tanner:

Dean Tanner states the CDBG project is underway and work is being done on Carrollton Street plans for USDA project have been sent to EPD.

Police Chief Chad Henderson:

Chad Henderson would like outfit the 2011 Dodge Charger that was fixed from the wreck with cameras and wiring and labor.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to allow Chad Henderson to outfit car with cameras and wiring and labor for five thousand seven hundred and fifty nine dollars.  Patty Hutcheson makes motion.  Donald Rainey seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.

City Clerk Karen King:

Karen King updates mayor and council on financials and property tax collections.

Credit card machines are tabled till the next meeting.

Code Enforcement Nathan Forrister:

Nathan Forrister updates mayor and council on asbestos report from 96 Tallapoosa Street it was negative now we are ready to move to the demolition stage of the project and after negotiating with three companies Chauncey Hill with Resurgence gave me the best deal.

Mayor Croft asks for a motion to have Chauncey Hill with Resurgence demolish the mobile home at 96 Tallapoosa Street for one thousand and nine hundred dollars from general fund.  Donald Rainey makes motion.  Patricia Brown seconded motion.  Motion carried 4-0.
