Minutes of Regular Council Meeting

May 9, 2017

Mayor: Johnny Pope

Council Members: Stanley Freeland, Patty Hutcheson, AJ Scott, were present.   

Department Head:  City Clerk Betty Harvell, Public Works Director Jason Robinson, Police Chief Chad Henderson.

Mayor Pope:  Calls the meeting to order.  Asks Patty Hutcheson to lead the invocation, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Johnny Pope.

Public Hearing:

Discussed last years compared to this years.

Closed public hearing.

Mayor Pope:  Asks for a motion to approve the agenda.   AJ Scott made a motion to approve the agenda.  Patty Hutcheson seconds the vote.  Motion carried with 3-0.

Mayor Pope:  Asks for a motion to approve minutes from April 11, 2017 and April 25, 2017 meetings.  Patty Hutcheson made a motion to approve the minutes from April 11, 2017 and April 25, 2017 meetings.  AJ Scott seconds the vote. Motion carried with 3-0.

Jana Gentry (Buchanan Library)

Not present.  Called to let us know she needed to be with her sister who is in a health battle, wanted to let you all know that the library is doing well.

Departmental Updates:

Jason Robinson:  Progress report on work at new wastewater plant.

Chad Henderson:

Citations for the month, needs new bullet proof vests.

Mayor Pope:  Asks for a motion to allow Chad Henderson to purchase bullet proof vests.   Stanley Freeland made a motion to allow Chad Henderson to purchase bullet proof vests.  Patty Hutcheson seconds the vote.  Motion carried with 3-0.

Betty Harvell:  All businesses have renewed business licenses or stated that they are out of business.

Donny Boswell:  Boutique is doing well, Wedding Venue closed and moved, Tom Large is upgrading the building vacated by the Wedding Venue and will advertise to try and get an upscale restaurant, still working on getting donations for the parking lot repaving, Fair on the Square is May 25th, Ombudsman will be closing and moving out toward High School.

Adjourn:  Patty Hutcheson made a motion to adjourn.  Stanley Freeland seconds the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.
